ACT
The ACT consists of subject area tests in English, Mathematics, Reading and Science. The ACT Plus Writing includes the four subject area tests plus the optional 30-minute written essay, which is not factored into your composite score. The ACT includes 215 multiple-choice questions and takes approximately 3 hours and 30 minutes to complete, including a short break (or just over four hours if you are taking the ACT Plus Writing). The ACT is offered 7 times a year and the highest composite score you can receive is 36.

SAT
The SAT consists of 3 sections: Reading, Writing and Language, Math (with a calculator and without a calculator), and an optional Essay. The highest score you can get on the SAT is 1600. The Writing section requires test takers to complete an essay that is not factored into the final score. Start to finish, the test will take you three hours and 45 minutes. The SAT is offered 7 times a year.
